The year was 1924, and soon-to-be-founder of the Boston Bruins Charles , Adams just returned from Montreal for the Cup finals between Calgary and the Canadians, Adams knew that the States, especially Boston, needed to have a professional hockey team sooner than later.
The Adams, a native of Vermont and successful Boston area business man, worked for the New England Maple Syrup Company, a brokerage or banking firm and then John Connor Company.
At John T. Connor, Charles Adams rose through the ranks and became president of the country’s first retail supermarket chain, Finest. Finest stands for First National Stores, Inc.
Adams was always a sports fan. He had owned the Suffolk Downs horse track and Boston’s “other” baseball team, the Braves. He had the desire, passion for sport, and financial backing to bring an NHL franchise to the Commonwealth.
Adams purchased franchise rights from Thomas Digging, who was awarded two teams in February 1924.
The asking price was $15,000. Charles Adams put in his application and the NHL awarded him the franchise in November 1924.

Now came the big decision, what to name the team?
With the help of newly hired general manager Art Ross, the front office chose the old English term for brown bear bruins.
The term bruin originated from the medieval European children’s fable entitled, History of Reynard the Fox.The name stuck bruins encapsulated exactly. What owner Charles Adams wanted ? to identify his franchise with an untamed animal displaying speed, agility, power and cunning.
Ironically enough, the colors of the team were already chosen before the name was. Adams wanted the team colors to be brown and yellow after his store chain’s color scheme. The brown bear, aka Bruin, fit perfectly.
Rumor has it, that dams loved brown so much that all of his horses, cows, pigs and hens were the color brown.
The team would keep their original color scheme until the ’38-’39 season. The Bruins would then adopt the franchise’s current colors, black, white and gold.
During the ’48 ’ 49 season, the team went to the Spokes B logo on the uniform and was tweaked a bit the following year. The logo went virtually unchanged until the ’93-’94 season.
So that’s how the Bruins got their name, oddly enough, from an old English children’s fable.
However, now, the team’s colors of Black and Gold don’t fit their name, but that’s a debate for another day.

History
Early years (1924–1942)
In 1924 at the convincing of Boston grocery magnate Charles Adams the National Hockey league decided to expand to the United States.
Adams had come to greatly enjoy ice hockey while watching the 1924 Stanley Cup Finals between the NHL Champion Montreal Canadians and the WCHL Champion Calgary Tigers, the previous year in 1923, Thomas Dogging received options on three NHL franchises for the United States and he sold one to Charles Adams who in turn persuaded the NHL to grant him a franchise for the city of Boston, which occurred on November 1, 1924.
With the Montreal Maroons the team was one of the NHL first expansion teams, and the first NHL team to be based in the United States. Adams' first act was to hire Art Ross, a former star player and innovator, as general manager. Adams directed Ross to come up with a nickname that would portray an untamed animal displaying speed, agility, and cunning, Ross came up with Bruins, an Old English word used for brown bears from the Dutch bruin meaning brown in classic folk tales.
The teams bearlike nickname also went along with the teams original uniform colors of brown and yellow, which came from Adams' grocery chain, First National Stores.

Expansion and the Big Bad Bruins (1967–1979)
Weston Adams repurchased the Bruins in 1964 after Brown's death and set about rebuilding the team. Adams signed a defense man from Parry Sound, notary named Bobby Orr who entered the league in 1966 and became in the eyes of many the greatest player of all time.
He was announced that seasons winner of the Calder Memorial Trophy for Rookie of the Year and named to the Second NHL All-Star Team. When asked about Orr NHL debut game, October 19, 1966 against the Detroit Red Wings, then Bruins coach Harry Sindee recalled our fans had heard about this kid for a few years now. There was a lot of pressure on him, but he met all the expectations. He was a star from the moment they played the national anthem in the opening game of the season."
Despite Orr's stellar rookie season, the Bruins would miss the playoffs. The next season, they would go on to make the playoffs for 29 straight seasons. Bruins then obtained young forwards Phil Expositor, Ken Hodge and Fred Stan field from Chicago in a deal celebrated as one of the most one - sided in hockey history.
Hodge and Stanfield became key elements of the bruins success and expositor, who centered a line with Hodge and Wayne Cash man, became the league's top goal - scorer and the first NHL player to break the 100 - point mark, setting many goal and point scoring records. Bruins coach Bruce Cassi leaned heavily on Marc hand, Berger on and Pasternak in a 2 - 1 game 5 loss at Boston on Thursday

"Doing more is probably not what you want to look to do," he said. "You probably want to simplify and just play your direct game. I think last game Tried to get the puck a little bit more and get the puck to the net.
And that's really what it's all about, The more pucks you get to the net, the more battles you win down low, the more opportunities you're going to have.

It won't be as physical, or if you have to prepare for a hard hit.
With the Blues, it doesn't matter because they're going to hit you every shift. They're coming. There isn't one line that you're up against that you can say, 'I'll be OK this shift.' It's every line. That's the impressive part. It's tiring to play physical hockey like that and the Blues do it well.
That's the concern for the Bruins, especially with how their defense men are getting hit. They were down to five defense men for the last two periods plus overtime in Game 2 and lost. Chara went out at 3:07 of the second period in Game and lost.
